Up early to catch my flight to the beach. Notice my shirt in the photo, ‘resting beach face’. It’s usually a resting bitch face, but I’m heading to the beach, so this face is currently a bit more festive 😉 Oh and yes, I’m that tan BEFORE I even get to the beach! I tan within seconds of stepping outside, hence why I wear sunscreen EVERY day. You should too, even if you don’t tan like I do. I’m also kind of a sunscreen snob, I only wear “Sunbum”. It’s good for you, the ocean, and it smells fabulous! Go get ya some and protect yo skin!
Any who, I’m going to try and make my airport story as short as possible. It was a nightmare! Couldn’t find parking-seriously ALL the lots were full! Security was insanely long and I had to RUN, literally RUN, to my gate because it was 10 minutes before take off. The entire time I’m thinking ‘shit, I’m going to miss my flight because they like to close the gate 10-15 mins prior to take off’. Just to arrive at the gate, out of breath, to be told there is a delay because of mechanical issues.
Now I said I was going to make the airport story short and you think that’s it. Nope. Not it. So the plane is delayed for an hour. Okay cool, this gives me time to go pee, as I loath using the airplane bathroom, and grab a drink. Hour goes by and we are still not boarding. Now, we not only have to move to another gate, but an entirely different terminal. They are now going to put us on a different plane. Okay fine, whatever. Follow the crowd of people to the new gate.
Delayed for another hour or so again because, well I’m not really sure why, the plane was there they just had to move it to the new gate. I guess that takes an hour. Then we finally get to board the plane! Hooray!!!
No, not hooray because now we are going to sit on the plane for another hour or so. Why you ask? Well because there are stickers missing from the bathrooms!!! Apparently it’s not ‘safe’ to fly a plane without those stickers. So we have to wait until they can find new stickers, literally freaking stickers, and have someone sign off on it. I’m no aviation specialist, but I think we would have all survived if the plane flew without the damn stickers!
After a short flight we finally arrived safely in Fort Lauderale, Florida, all thanks to the new bathroom stickers no doubt, but now we have to wait another thirty-ish minutes on the tarmac before we can even taxi to our gate! I know, I know…I sound like a brat. Perhaps I was being one, but at this point I was hangry. Remember it was suppose to be an early morning flight. I was suppose to be there prior to lunch time. I literally had a bottle of water all day and I didn’t get off the plane until after 4pm. I already know what you’re thinking, ‘why didn’t you get a snack on the plane?’. Well Susan, I don’t get snacks or drinks on planes because I’m a germaphobe and if it ain’t pre-packaged or a full can of soda/bottled water, I ain’t eating/drinking it! This was a short flight so all the snacks and drinks were shared among other passengers. So there ya go!
I obviously went straight to get food after leaving the airport. The restaurant had a lovely view and the food was amazing!!! Seriously, I ate there twice while I was there. Highly recommend ‘Coconuts’ if you ever find yourself in Ft. Lauderdale. In fact all of the places that I ate at were good, even the beach bar at my hotel. ‘Coconuts’ just happened to be, by far, my favorite along with this gelato place (that I can’t think of the name now.). Seriously though, I had gelato every freakin’ night I was there.
Oh and if you were wondering what I ordered at ‘Coconuts’, I got the mahi-mahi sandwich..both times; grilled with the tarter sauce on the side. Although I did change it up with my sides. First time I got it with fries and the second time I got green beans and a heirloom tomato salad. The green beans weren’t that great, but the heirloom salad made up for it.
Now I’ll be honest. I’m awful at taking pictures while I’m out and about. I just don’t think to do it, but I’m exceptionally awful at taking foodie pictures. I don’t think of it until I’ve already eaten half of my food and be honest, who wants a picture of that?! I did however get a lovely photo of the view from my table.
I’m either the worst or best person to go on vacation with, there is no in between. It all depends on what kind of ‘vacation-er’ you are. I literally don’t plan anything. I just go with the flow with whatever comes up. There is no set itinerary to follow. Let’s just have fun!
I will say though, I will google restaurants and write down the top rated places I want to go to. No one has time for all that when they’re hungry and let’s be real, I’m always hungry. I’m actually munching on pretzels while I write this blog LOL.
So anyways, I didn’t have much ‘planned’ for my trip. All I wanted was good food, gelato every day, gamble at the casino, and beach it all day, every day. Seriously, that’s the perfect beach vacation to me and that’s what I did. So I guess it was ‘semi planned’.
Every morning I would wake up to this beautiful view. Sit on the balcony, drink coffee, and listen to the sounds of the water.
If you zoom on the photo, which I know you probably already did or will do now that I said something, you will see I have sand already on my feet. There’s a good chance this isn’t a morning photo LOL. Probably when I went upstairs for a swimsuit change. Yes, I did do that. I have too many amazing bikinis to just wear one the entire day 😉
Now honestly, this isn’t the greatest angle or the most flattering of photos. However, I think it was the only one I took in a bikini. I know, mind blowing! Let’s not forget though, I did say I was horrible at remembering to take photos, so you get what you get. I also think this was from the first day at the beach too, as I’m not very tan in it.
Every morning prior to heading to the beach I rode a bike to breakfast. Gotta burn that gelato off some how 😉 Now the video is a bit shaky, but I’d like you to give it a try. It’s not as easy as one would think. You have to steer with one hand, watch for traffic, try to hold the phone to show the pretty ocean view, make sure that the phone is pointed in the right direction. I’m lucky I got that as my final product without crashing LOL.
Like I said previously, I went to the beach everyday all day, except for one because it rained. So that day I went to a super fancy movie theater to watch “Yesterday”, which was amazing by the way 10/10 recommend. Anyways, this movie theater was super lux. Leather reclining chairs, blankets, pillows, and server to bring you whatever you wanted during the movie. Now you remember how I said I was awful at taking pictures, right? Well I got you. I took a fabulous photo at the movie theater. It was just of the bathroom and no, it’s not a bathroom selfie. Just a picture of the bathroom haha. You’re welcome 🙂
I’m a gambling wo-man and enjoy going to the casinos. Mainly because I always win. However this time, that was not the case. I didn’t loose awful, but a loss is a loss and they fuckin’ suck! Again I didn’t get any pictures while at the casino, but here is a little selfie of me. It’s not even the outfit I wore to the casino, but I did wear it one night out to dinner.
Most evenings, after getting gelato, I would sit by the ocean. I love the beach during the day, but there is just something so peaceful about it in the evenings. I was also secretly hoping I would see a turtle nest hatch and watch as they try and make their way to the ocean, but no such luck.
Oh and a little fun, yet sad, fact about sea turtle hatchlings and why it’s so important not to have bright lights on the beach at night and not to disturb the nest. A momma turtle will lay about 100 eggs average, 2 to 3 times a year, but only 1 in 1,000 hatchlings will actually make it to the ocean and survive!! Crazy right?! I learned that while sitting on the ocean one evening.
I seriously had the best time. It was relaxing, had great food, and gelato. It would have been even better if I had won at the casino, but there’s always next time.
The view was amazing! I mean, come on?! Who wouldn’t want to wake up to this every single day?!
Now there were two bad-ish parts, aside from the rain.
The first being that I got bit by sea lice. If you don’t know what sea lice is, they are teeny tiny little jelly fish that sting you. It feels like a fire ant bite; it stings and burns, then itches like hell the next few days. Hence why I call it a sea lice bite and not sting. I was bit three times on the back of my leg, which wasn’t too bad. As I’ve been bit before on my tits and ass, which was not fun!
Now the second bad-ish part was also an extremely fun and exciting part too. Quite the paradox, I know, but it’s true! It happened on my last night there, thankfully. Now how many of you like to swim around in the ocean? I certainly do! I like to swim, snorkel, body surf, and skim board. I enjoy being in the ocean.
Now cue the “Jaws” music because on my last night there I walked the pier and watched a kid reel in a HUGE lemon shark!!!
Y’all it was thrilling and exciting to watch a kid, of maybe 15, reel this big thing in! It was huge; they were saying 6-7ft! There was no way to actually reel it onto the pier, so they had to drag it up to the beach to take their photo and release it!
Now I respect the ocean. I understand it’s THEIR home and I’m just a visitor, but holy H-E-L double hockey sticks!!! You don’t actually like to think that something like that is in the ocean while you are swimming in it!! That’s why I said I’m glad I saw that the last night I was there! I don’t know if I would want to get in the ocean the very next day after seeing this!
So that was my trip! Thankfully my flight home was way less eventful too! Now I’m thinking about my next beach trip! I’m already missing the sun, sand, and water!!
